Getting familiar with Regulation (EU) 2023/1542.
It is time to start learning a new regulation title: on the 27th July 2023, Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 July 2023 was published in the Official Journal.
The end for the long standing Batteries Directive 2006/66/EC is in sight.
The new regulation will come into force on the 17th August 2023.
The application within the member states will start six months later, thus on the 18th February 2024.
Since a regulation is not transposed but applies directly, the member states have to amend their own legislatory frameworks. Since this takes more time, Directive 2006/66/EC will apply in parallel to Regulation (EU) 2023/ 1542 until the 18th August 2025.
