The first step on a long road.

California has chaptered the SB 707 Responsible Textile Recovery Act of 2024 on the 28th September 2024.

This Act will apply the principles of the Extended Producer Responsibility to a range of apparel and other textile producers. Those economic actors will be required to establish a producer responsibility organization (PRO) and thus ensure that textiles are not disposed of in the unsorted household waste stream any longer. The PRO is supposed to define a plan for the collection, the repairing and the recycling of textiles.

This program is expected by the st July 2028 with the PRO having to submit a first plan by the 1st July 2030.

The road is still long, but a first step is made.
